Today, I received the news about the launch of Actress/Comedian Melissa McCarthy’s new plus-size fashion line through my PLUS SIZE NEWS feed on my account from Google+ and decided this was some great news to share with you.
I hope that you find it as exciting as I do! Our choices are ever-growing in the fashion industry and it’s so great to see someone like Melissa do her part since she knows and understands how it feels to be a plus size beauty in a world that has seemed to refuse to acknowledge that we are beautiful women too and deserve to be a part of the fashion industry just like any other woman. We all love to wear nice things, too. We deserve more choices…
Don’t ya think Curves <absolutely> Deserve Fashion, too?!! Of course ya do or you wouldn’t be hear reading my blog, right? So, join me in celebrating a fellow plus-size gal’s courage, strength, and passion for taking a stand for ALL Women, especially Plus-Size, and making one of her dreams come alive!
The reason I say ALL WOMEN is because she is not leaving anyone out with this line; available in both missy sizes ranging from 4 to 16 and plus sizes from 14 to 28 and also, 1X-4X range.
As Melissa puts it,[pullquote align=center]
” Our woman is not defined by age, size or occupation. She has personality and isn’t afraid to show it.”
She also brings up a really good point, “If 67 percent of the population is estimated to be plus size, why is it so hard to find great clothes?”
Wow, did anyone else know that we were the MAJORITY! It sure hasn’t felt like it to me, but i must admit we are finally turning heads in a good way and it certainly feels good! We do have a long way to go, but at least we are making strides and beginning to gain the respect that we soo deserve!
I also learned that McCarthy’s new assortment of trend-conscious basics debuted on HSN.com and is rolling out over the next month online at Nordstrom, Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s, Lane Bryant and many other retailers including her own website. Prices range from $54 to $169. When searching for this collection online look for Melissa McCarthy Seven7.
A news release cited McCarthy’s own personal struggle with finding comfortable and stylish clothing while going up in sizes from a missy’s 6 to plus-size 12 and beyond as part of her inspiration; however, I understand that it didn’t begin there:
Before landing her career as an actress/comedian, she had aspirations to become a New York fashion designer. In fact, she had moved to Manhattan to attend the Fashion Institute of Technology.
Knowing McCarthy’s aspirations and inspiration for designing would explain why she is intricately involved in every process of the launching of the Seven7 collection. She even wears every piece to make sure that it is to her satisfaction before adding it to the line. She says that there are sleeves on all of her tops and high waist bands on her pants.
Her jeans are featured with internal panels for the most comfortable tummy control and 4-part waistbands so as to prevent gaps. The forward seams of the denim are constructed so as make your legs appear longer whereas flat-seam construction is used on the side seams allowing them to lie flush against the thigh.
In June She told People Magazine that this was a “selfish venture”;
“I started this line because I wanted to know: Where are the normal clothes? This really is a selfish venture. I wanted to build a better closet for myself.”
“I’ve worn every single piece. There are little jeans that are super stretchy and they come all the way up, because I just do not need to see anyone’s muffin top, and I do not need to see anyone bend over and be able to tell what color underwear they’re wearing anymore.”
Then, she spoke about her reasoning behind her strong feelings about sleeves.
“Yes, there are lots of sleeves here! Hallelujah! Do you know how many fights I’ve had about sleeves?” she asks. “I was actually told once [by a manufacturer she’s not working with now], ‘Plus-size women do not want sleeves, in any capacity.’ I was like, ‘Are you crazy? That’s not accurate! I am plus-size, and I want them, I have friends who are size 26 and size 8 and they want a sleeve! Very few things [in Seven7] don’t have sleeves. My stuff has sleeves, my stuff has pockets, you can count on that.”
I have taken a look at some of her new fall fashion styles from her collection on HSN and NORDSTROM and I’m really digging some of them.
Why don’t you head over there and check em out (I have included the links above) and come back here or to any of my social media feeds and let’s chat…tell me what YOU think.
Will you be purchasing some of these? If so, which styles are your faves? I want to hear from you even if you don’t like any of the new McCarthy plus size styles.
Tell me why you would or wouldn’t buy any of her new styles or what designs you would include if it were YOUR NEW Plus Size Fashion Line?
I want to know your thoughts!!
Thanks for dropping by!
